5k Races

The Color Run:

The Happiest 5k on the planet is becoming an American staple for families, colleges, and running clubs around the country. The Color Run is more of a party than a race, and at every kilometer, runners are greeted with a safe and edible color blasted onto the course! By the end, racers look like walking tye-dye! So wear your whitest whites and form a team today!

Warrior Dash:

For those on the adventurous side, feast your eyes on the Warrior Dash! Dress up as a Trojan, a Viking, or even as Mulan in this running event and face the obstacles ahead! Choose between three types of warriors (virgin, casual and ultimate) and start training today. The obstacles in the Warrior Dash work all the muscles in your body. Once you are done feeling like a Greek God(dess), you can rest well knowing you helped donate to St. Jude’s Hospital in the process.

RunDisney 5k:

Run with Goofy, Mickey and all your favorite princesses in these 5k races. Sign up for the family Fun Run next January and motivate your whole family to live a healthy lifestyle. Run around the world at Epcot and spend the weekend in the Happiest Place on Earth. It’s hard not to find motivation on this course when you are greeted with Disney entertainment around every corner!

Turkey Trots:

As winter inevitably creeps closer, sign up with family and friends for Turkey Trots around the nation. Last year, Houston, TX hosted the largest thanksgiving run benefiting Sheltering Arms Senior Services. This is one of the best running events to kick off the holiday festivities with the whole family and to help others on this special day.

The Naked Foot 5k:

Get your kids moving! Run barefoot and donate your extra shoes to Soles4Souls. Soles4Souls delivers shoes to people in need all over the world! For beginners, this is also a great place to enhance your form. The whole point of this race is to get active, get healthy and have fun!

Madrid Running

Anyone living and running or traveling to and running in the Madrid area, give me a call if you're in search of a running partner.  It's hot but beautiful here, especially along the river or in the parks.

You can contact me through this blog or on Twitter.

Hope you're staying cool and enjoying your run!

Zombie Run

An innovative app that puts a pack of zombies on your tail, mixing the groans and moans of the shambling undead into your own choice of music, and unveiling its post-apocalyptic storyline as you stack up the miles. Run well, and you’ll find ammo and medicine to distribute to fellow survivors; run poorly, and your delicious brain are lunch. It’s currently iOS-only, but Android users can join in now because I think that the Android version came out last week.

Runner or Jogger?

A runner can answer the questions about running such as “Is it normal for my toenail to be black?” or “What the hell is a fartlek?"

Earndit

For some of us, working out is its own reward. For the rest, there's Earndit. Earndit promises just that: it’s not a fitness tracker itself, but it’ll suck down data from a number of other sites, aggregating it and assigning you points based on your activity level. Rack up enough points, and you can spend them on a slew of rewards: everything from clothing gift cards to dietary supplements. You can even give them to charity. If you’re out there putting in the miles, why not?

Fitocracy

Fitocracy, a comparatively new player in the fitness tracker market created by a motley crew of fitness nerds, gamers, and assorted geeks. It’s by far the most outwardly “gamey” of the tracker welb sites, assigning you points for every activity you complete, handing out achievements, level-ups, and quest-like workout goals, then showing you how your progress matches up to your friends.

Maintaining motivation can be one of the biggest challenges in making a new health regimen stick — perhaps Fitocracy’s approach has what it takes to get your competitive side into the game.

I Run

because brownies, french fries and beer are chasing me.

Summer Essentials

Water - Don’t leave your water at home on your long runs. Water fountains can be hard to come by. There are tons of great companies that make belts, handhelds and backpacks that can hold all your water needs.

Gels - Make sure you fuel properly.

Camera - It isn't imperative that you share your exploits with the world but it's fun. And motivating. Invest in a carrying case as well to avoid a broken camera. Show people what you see. Remember to have fun with your photos. It will also help slow you down on those recovery runs.

Shorts - All your winter work comes out now. Show off the legs you worked so hard for.

Friends - You’ll want to have a large number of running buddies that you can invite on your escapades. There's several group runs that can be lots of fun.

Post-Run - Fire up the grill, make some drinks, slip on your flip-flops, and enjoy the summer.

Lawn/Patio Chair - Strategically placed in the sunshine (or shade if you prefer), this can really help you unwind on your deck after a good run. Pull out a good book about running too keep you inspired.

Karnazes movie

Ultra-endurance legend, author and featured runnersworld.com blogger Dean Karnazes can now add film star to his running list of credentials. UltraMarathon Man: 50 Marathons · 50 States · 50 Days, a new feature documentary chronicling the amazing feats of Karnazes and The North Face Endurance 50, was released in theaters on July 31 for a special one day showing in more than 200 theaters across the country.
