I Run

To live longer. Who doesn’t want to live forever? Not only do runners have fewer disabilities and remain active longer than their sedentary counterparts, they actually live longer.

Run On

“The body benefits [of running] are there, but the mental and psychological benefits are greater,” says Jeff Galloway, a former Olympian runner and author of Running Until You’re 100.

We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort. ~ Jesse Owens

If you want to become the best runner you can be, start now. Don’t spend the rest of your life wondering if you can do it. ~ Priscilla Welch

Run On

You also need to look back, not just at the people who are running behind you but especially at those who don’t run and never will… those who run but don’t race…those who started training for a race but didn’t carry through…those who got to the starting line but didn’t in the finish line…those who once raced better than you but no longer run at all. You’re still here. Take pride in wherever you finish. Look at all the people you’ve outlasted.

I Run

To forget the person I left behind in 2009 as I ran toward the person I am today.

It is not enough to take steps which may some day lead to a goal; each step must be itself a goal and a step likewise

Run On

“The more I run, the more I want to run, and the more I live a life conditioned and influenced and fashioned by my running. And the more I run, the more certain I am that I am heading for my real goal: to become the person I am.”

—George Sheehan, M.D., beloved former RW columnist

Big Sur Marathon

Runner’s World recently named Big Sur the world’s best destination marathon—and one of the top three marathons in America.

Every turn along Highway 1 presents another stunning panoramic view of the California coastline. Run across bridges and past lighthouses as waves crash against the rocks below.

But remember to train hard: Big Sur’s steep hills can leave you breathless.

Madrid Guide 1.1

So I helped a German runner get in a good loop AND find his way back to his hotel.  I swear this is the THIRD time I've been stopped and asked if I speak English and can I help.  Of course, I am happy to, but I  feel like charging these days, especially when I have to stop my run.  Nah, kidding.  I am happy to help.

If ANYONE is in Madrid or THINKING of coming to Madrid, drop me a line, I will totally hook you up with a run through the city.  Free of charge!  :D

I only ask that you say kind things about me when you return home.

Hope everyone had a good run today!

Run On

I always loved running…it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs.

~ Jesse Owens

Run On

“I think it’s one of the most natural things for any human to do is to be able to run because it’s that flight or fight reaction you have. You either fight or you run away. It’s just a natural way for us to move."--Zola Budd
