at the Oficina de Extranjeros .... Was...
A success! I was renewed!
So first, I did need to get my new contract for the coming school year in order o activate my SS number, but I didn't need copies of it nor the SS office's written confirmation. But it never hurts to have TOO MUCH documentation.
So I turned in my paperwork, which really consisted of a copy of all my passport's pages. I signed two documents. And a document EX-03 or Solicitud de autorizacion de residencia temporal y trabajo por cuenta ajean or a temp until I get my new NIE card. Then I was given 2 bills to pay. They are basically fees for the processing of the documents. One is for 76.05€ and the other is for 15.30€. You have a few days to pay it, but you can't move forward until you have them paid. So I went around the corner to a nearby bank and paid them. You have to go to a bank, any bank, and they stamped it for you. You have three copies of each, or 6 total. You need to give them all of them. The bank keeps one copy.
You then return to the Oficina. Take another number, so you can hand in the four remaining copies of the fee.
You hand them in, they keep one copy of two and you are left with your copies of the two receipts. They give you ANOTHER document which is also a temporary NIE identification, and explains that you have so many days to go and have your fingerprints taken and a new card made before the paper expires. These papers are all signed by you with your NIE number underneath.
Finally, you are asked when you would like your fingerprint and card construction date. I was surprised by this, because the last time I was simply told when to go for it, and it was several weeks in the future. Today, I told her Friday of this week would be good, and she accepted it.
You are given two documents. One is modelo 790 which I have turned into a PDF and placed in my blog. It wasn't easy for me to find the first time, as it is one of the documents not posted by the ministry of the interior. But here, I was handed it. The clerk also filled out the required 18€ euros I will have to fork over to get my card processed. (It really is a racket.) The second document is explains where you go for the card and what of need to bring with you. I went through this all the first, but it's nice to see it spelled out, and just in case they changed things. By the way, this is all in my blog.
You need to go to Metro Aluche, Linea 5 to the Brigada de Extranjeria y Documentacion on Calle Avda de Los Poblados, which is ironically right next to the local prison hospital. Bring with you:
• modelo 790
• resguardo
• current passport
• the document explaining all this right now
• your old card
• three photos, probably passport size
Two nice NEW things about the process this time...
#1 my lawyer is meeting me at aluche, so I don't have to go through it by myself, which wasn't too hard but a pain, especially since I PAID for the service.
#2 this time my NIE card and work visa is good for TWO YEARS and doesn't expire until June of 2014!
