London Marathon
Not only is the London Marathon a good excuse to travel abroad, it’s also a great way to experience the city. The terrain is mostly flat, for starters, with very few serious inclines. That’s one reason why Paula Ratcliffe set her world record of 2:15:25 here—a time that no woman has approached since. Runners start in Blackheath, head east through Charlton and Woolrich, cross the river Thames, and loop back around the east end of London. virginlondonmarathon.com
