Robert's Running Observation 16

Hunger

As your mileage builds you will be hungry. Hunger like you’ve never felt hunger before. Get used to eating yourself out of house and home. Always looking for food. Make sure you’ve got a fully stocked fridge for the days around your Long Run. You'll be eating before your Long Run to fuel up and after to refuel and repair. Be smart though and eat sensibly; runners need carbs but not ridiculous amounts. Though I'm guilty of heavy fueling. Usually one mile ran = 100kcal burned. Now marathon training is not a free pass to eat whatever you like. Diet is still key. The night before a long run have a carb heavy meal, afterwards fill your body with protein to aid muscle recovery. And sensible diet for the rest of the days.
