Nazis seized his home during World War II. A letter recently arrived, expressing remorse.



The letter arrived for Peter Hirschmann with a postmark from Nuremberg, Germany, where he and his family had escaped from Nazis nearly 80 years ago. The words, neat script in three pages, brought the 92-year-old resident of Maplewood, N.J., to tears.

Nicholas Winton Is Dead at 106; Saved Children From the Holocaust



Nicholas Winton, a Briton who said nothing for a half-century about his role in organizing the escape of 669 mostly Jewish children from Czechoslovakia on the eve of World War II, a righteous deed like those of Oskar Schindler and Raoul Wallenberg, died on Wednesday in Maidenhead, England.

Spain wants to make amends for expelling Jews from the country in 1492





Exactly 523 years ago on Tuesday, the Edict of Expulsion, which forced Spain’s Jewish community to convert to Catholicism or leave the country, was issued by monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella.
