5 American habits I lost when I moved to Spain



Everything in Spain operates on a slightly later schedule than in America. For that reason, it’s not weird to see whole families — little kids included — out at restaurants or bars eating dinner at 9 or 10 at night, or later. This would have been way past my bedtime when I was a child.

1. Idle chit chat. During my first days of work in Germany, I made sure to be super friendly to all of my coworkers. Whenever anyone passed me in the hallway, I would grin maniacally, wave, and yelp, “Hi! How’s your day going?” The responses ranged from bemused looks to a total lack of reply.
