Caffeine Half-life

The half-life of caffeine in the body can range from 2 1/2 hours to 12 hours. Because of genetic differences, some of us metabolize caffeine much more quickly than others.

Typical half-life is probably about five hours, which means caffeine typically stays in the body for about 10 hours.

So as a rule of thumb, if you want to go to sleep by midnight — and stay asleep — it’s probably best not to drink coffee after 2 p.m
