Face of fear

Courage is often confused with the absence of fear. Fear of failing is an ever-present emotion. You feel it when you leave the door and put one foot after the other. You feel it on the 12th km and wonder if there will be another one. But the first step in finding the courage to over come that fear is to find WHAT is keeping you from moving. What is keeping you locked in one place? Stuck on the couch?

Is it fear of becoming someone else? Afraid of getting out of that prison of sedentary life? Of getting an active healthy life?

To do anything of these things, you need to face that fear. In order to discover who you are and who you might be, you need to ask yourself those questions and, harder still, find those answers.

Many times, as I have had, you will have a cheerleader in your corner. A girlfriend, a parent, a friend, a wife, etc. But, even then, and most times, you will be your own cheerleader. No one else will be there when you look for those answers. When you face that fear.

So beginning today, you look at yourself. You are flawed, but potentially better. You are ready but afraid. This is the first step on an adventure. The best of your life. It will transform your mind, your body, and your soul. Beginning here and now, you will find the courage to take that first step and even more important you will find the courage to change.

The victory will come... And with each you fill face DOWN your fear.

The victory of leaving your house... Perhaps for a walk, perhaps for a run. And each one after that is a triumph. The next mile. The next hour. The next race.

You will celebrate those triumphs. You will be stronger for those celebrations. They will make you move more and more often. You will seek them out each day. In groups or by yourself. You will want to create victory after victory and revel in them. Even if you are the only one who knows of them. You will find joy in the simple act of trying!

Always remember....

As kids we instinctively run. I am looking at playground right now and I see children running around. We all want to move. It is fear FEAR that keeps us from doing today. We need to remember that we ran across savannas. We chased down game. We walked between continents. Moving, running, is coded in our genes.

You were born to move. You were born to walk. You were born to run. You ARE born an athlete. No matter how out of shape you are or how in shape you are. We are born to move.

So look into that face of fear, the one who looks like you, and find your answers, and go outside to change yourself.
